Steve Walsh and Muzzy Izzet Soccer Academy

Outside of Leicester, Muzzy Izzet is arguably one of the most underrated players to have performed in the Premier League. He brought creativity and attacking verve to the City midfield and was one of Martin O'Neill's most impressive signings. Izzet fitted in perfectly alongside Neil Lennon and Robbie Savage forming possibly the finest midfield in the club's history. With Lennon and Savage providing the bite and defensive cover, complimenting Izzet's energetic attacking style, the Foxes took the top flight by storm in the late 90s.

An apprentice at Chelsea in his youth, Glenn Hoddle allowed Izzet to join Leicester in 1996 following a successful loan spell at the club. The move proved to be the making of Muzzy, with regular first-team football providing the platform for him to realise his potential. An excellent passing midfielder with an eye for goal, Izzet could always be relied upon to score goals for the Foxes. Famed for arriving late in the box and finding the net, Izzet was equally adept at scoring from distance and often finished the season in double figures.

Part of the promotion winning side of 1996, Muzzy soon adapted to life in the top flight as his pace and positive style was ideally suited to the tempo of the Premiership. Despite his consistent club form, Muzzy was overlooked by England and received a call up to the squad for the Turkish national team in 2000. The City man was eligible to play as his father was born in Turkey and was named in the Euro 2000 squad, making his first appearance against Sweden at the tournament. He was also part of the impressive 2002 World Cup side, when the Turks reached the semi-finals, before losing to eventual winners Brazil.

As well as tasting glory, Izzet also experienced disappointment during his 8-year spell with City, as the side suffered relegation from the top flight in 2002 and the club encountered financial problems. The popular midfielder stayed loyal amid speculation about potential moves back to the top flight and under manager Micky Adams was an inspirational figure as City bounced back to the Premiership at the first time of asking the following season.

Muzzy left Leicester in 2004 following the club's second relegation in three seasons and was snapped up on a free transfer by Birmingham City. Sadly his career at St. Andrews was blighted by injuries and Blues fans never saw him at his best. After two frustrating seasons spent battling injury, Muzzy announced his retirement from the professional game in 2006. Unfortunately this deprived the Foxes fans of seeing him in a City shirt again, as he had planned to finish his career at the club.

Following his retirement Muzzy has gone into coaching, setting up his own soccer schools alongside Steve Walsh and playing a major role in the development of Legends UK. Muzzy is also a patron for Wishes4Kids, a charity which is close to his heart.
